Terms of Service

Matcha Wire is operated by Ooika ("Ooika," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using matchawire.com (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. What the Service is

Matcha Wire is a daily English-language briefing on Japan's tea industry. We monitor Japanese newspapers, government and trade sources, and research, and publish our own original editorial layer — English summaries, key points, short attributed quotations, tags, and links to the original sources. We do not republish other outlets' full articles or their translations. Where you want a full article, you read it at the source or translate it yourself using your own AI account (see §6).

2. Accounts

Accounts are created when you subscribe. You're responsible for the security of your login and for all activity under your account. Provide an accurate email; keep your password confidential. One account is for one person — don't share credentials.

3. Subscriptions, billing & cancellation

4. Acceptable use

The Service is for your personal, professional reading. You agree not to:

We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that abuse the Service.

5. Our content and third-party sources

Our editorial layer (summaries, key points, tags, and layout) is owned by Ooika and provided for your use under these Terms. Headlines, short quotations, and links belong to their respective publishers and are used to identify and point to the original reporting. Trademarks and article text remain the property of their owners.

6. Bring-your-own-AI translations

Our optional browser extension lets you translate a full source article using your own Claude or OpenAI account. That translation happens in your browser, under your API key and your provider's terms; Matcha Wire never receives the article text or your key, and isn't responsible for your provider's output, accuracy, or charges.

7. Availability & changes

We aim to publish every morning but don't guarantee uninterrupted service, specific sources, or that any particular story will appear. We may add, change, or remove features.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is." It is journalism and information, not financial, legal, or professional advice. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ooika disclaims all warranties and is not liable for indirect or consequential damages; our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. On termination your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitations) will survive.

10. Governing law & changes to these Terms

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Ooika is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. We may update these Terms; material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date, and continued use means you accept them.
